Poeta inglesa. Vivió gran parte de su vida con una tía en un suburbio de Londres y trabajó durante muchos años como secretaria. Su poesía, una combinación nada sentimental entre lo absurdo y lo patético, revela una personalidad original y visionaria. En la década de 1960 sus lecturas poéticas se hicieron muy populares, al punto que llegó a hacer varias transmisiones y grabaciones para la radio. Sus Collected Poems [Poemas completos] (1975) están ilustrados con sus propios dibujos, que remedan el estilo de James Thurber. Este volumen incluye su primer libro, A Good Time Was Had by All [Todos pasamos un buen rato] (1937) y Not Waving but Drowning [No estoy saludando sino ahogándome] (1957), cuyo poema homónimo aparece en varias antologías.
